As the pattern wraps across the moulded plywood surface, it follows the chair’s contours, creating a dialogue between graphic and form. Rather than simply decorating the object, the typography becomes an integral part of its sculptural character.

Overview
Originally designed by Charles and Ray Eames, this moulded plywood group dining chair was reimagined with a bespoke graphic by Anthony Burrill. The design features a repeating interlocking ampersand motif, hand-painted by sign-writer Alex Rayment, bringing a tactile quality to the piece and celebrating the craft of hand-painted typography.

Commissioned by The Furniture Practice, the project brought together graphic design, craftsmanship and modern furniture design to raise funds for The Peel.
